The Senior Academy
Queen's Senior Academy Programme supports Year 13 students in non-selective schools and further education colleges in developing their potential to progress to Higher Education, including Queen's University Belfast. Click here for more information on the Senior Academy activities.
Fifty students from across Northern Ireland will be nominated by their teachers/tutors, Year Head or Head of Careers this year to take part in a programme of activities and events designed to develop academic and personal skills between April 2017 and May 2018.

OverviewQueen’s Senior Academy programme supports students who have the potential to progress to university, regardless of economic or social background. The two year programme (starting April 2017) offers students from non-selective secondary schools and further education colleges, the chance to take part in a range of activities designed to prepare them for university life. Activities include; academic skills workshops, lectures, seminars and support throughout the university application process. In addition students will also have the opportunity to participate in a short summer residential experience, staying at Elms Village at Queen’s. Current Queen’s undergraduate and postgraduate students are actively involved in the Queen’s Senior Academy Programme and offer general academic support to participants throughout. Participants are entitled to 30 hours of one-to-one subject specific tuition in preparation for their A-level exams and BTEC level assessment. Active participation and engagement in the programme increases knowledge and understanding of what it is like to be a student at Queen’s University. |

Senior Academy Tutoring Positions
Job Purpose:
To provide one-to-one tutoring in relevant subject areas for A2 and BTEC level students participating in the Queen’s University Academy Programme delivered throughout a range of NI locations.
Main Duties:
- To explain relevant curriculum areas to students, addressing particular issues as directed by students.
- To tutor fundamentals of the given subject areas.
- To create a positive learning environment.
- To work through examples and past papers.
- To provide guidance on revision techniques and study skills for specific subject areas.
- To ensure support is delivered in an accessible and timely manner.
- To adhere to the Code of Conduct as issued by Queen’s University.
- To complete and return all relevant paperwork for each tutor session in a timely and accurate manner.
- To provide feedback to the Widening Participation Unit as requested.
- To provide resources developed as part of your tutoring role to the Widening Participation unit.
We are no longer recruiting tutors for the academic year 2016-2017. Please revisit the webpage from October 2017 for 2017-2018 academic year vacancies.
*Please note that tutors are only required for the subjects and locations listed below. Academy students are usually allocated between 15-30 hours of tutoring. Tutors are paid £25 per hour. Each Academy student is entitled to a maximum of 30 hours of tutoring throughout the academic year; some choose to split this allocation between two subjects.
