Queen's University Association, Dublin (QUAD)
Contact: quadlist@gmail.com
QUAD exists to promote regular contact between Queen's graduates living or working in the Dublin area and to maintain links with our Alma Mater in Belfast. The Association provides a forum for social, cultural and educational networking by arranging a number of interesting and lively events each year, appealing to a wide cross-section of Queen's graduates.
Outline details of past Association events can be found here; information was also included in the most recent issue of Associations.
Due to their popularity, several activities are repeated from year to year, though the QUAD Committee is always open to suggestions and ideas, particularly from new members. The annual dinner is always well attended, usually by in excess of 100 members and guests. Much of the success of the evening is down to the high calibre of the guest speaker, who normally has a connection with Queen's. Past speakers have included Lara Marlowe (Irish Times), President Mary McAleese, former Taoiseach Garrett Fitzgerald, singer and honorary Queen’s graduate Phil Coulter, Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney and former political leader John Hume.
A regular feature in the QUAD calendar is the annual wine-tasting evening. QUAD is fortunate to have Alan Crowley - a Master of Wines - on its committee who provides his expertise and a selection of wonderful wines. Alan's easy-going and relaxed style ensures that everyone goes away with a lot of knowledge, and having had a wonderful evening.
The annual QUAD membership fee is €16.50 and those interested in joining can here for an application form. Queen's graduates are very welcome to attend any of our events, prior to becoming a member. Anyone wanting to find out more about the activities of the association should contact quadlist@gmail.com.
There is also a LinkedIn group for Queen's graduates living in Dublin.
PERKS - Members of QUAD automatically receive a personal Perks card while copies of the Perks directory are available on request. Benefits available for members in the Dublin area include - Carlton Hotel Group, Virgin Wines, James Joyce Centre, AA Breakdown Cover and Giftsnideas.com

The current committee, lead by the Acting President Colette Wright, is compiling a programme of events for West Coast based Queen's graduates and friends of the University. Activities are typically held in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
With over 150 alumni on the West Coast, the Association aims to maintain links with Queen’s and to organise regular events for graduates. Alumni on the West Coast can also maintain contact with each other via Queen's University Belfast, West Coast USA on LinkedIn - which already has over 40 members.

Queen's University Association, Scotland (QUAS)
If you wish to maintain links with Queen’s or to keep in touch with fellow graduates then membership of QUAS can help you do so. Membership is open to all graduates as well as postgraduate students of Queen’s who are based in Scotland.
QUAS offers opportunities to participate actively in a network that is useful in both professional and career development terms as well as being enjoyable on a social and personal level. In addition, all members are automatically enrolled on the Perks discount scheme which offers an attractive range of exclusive membership benefits for you, representing real value for your annual subscription of £10.
The Queen's University Association, Scotland has been in existence since April 2003, and now has around 60 registered members. Whatever your level of involvement, QUAS extends a warm welcome to you.
Our Annual Dinner takes place in February/March alternating between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and in recent years has featured esteemed guest speakers such as author Alexander McCall Smith, former First Minister Lord David Trimble and broadcaster Denis Tuohy. The evening also offers a relaxed forum for members to hear the latest news from the Alumni Office or University staff.
During August, an afternoon at the Edinburgh International Book Festival or a play at the Festival Fringe followed by a meal has proved to be a popular mainstay of our events calendar. A visit to the Speyside Whisky Festival last year was so much enjoyed that it will become an annual event. A recent outing to the Scottish Parliament was fascinating for all those who attended. Additional ad hoc events are arranged each year, and the QUAS Committee welcomes suggestions for new options enthusiastically. We are keen to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.
If you wish to join the Queen's University Association, Scotland, please click here for a membership registration form and here for a Direct Debit payment form, or contact the QUAS President, Una Gordon, directly for further details.

Setting up a Queen's University Alumni Association
If you are considering setting up a Queen's alumni branch in your location, your first step is to find out whether such a group currently exists in, or near, your area. The Alumni Office will help you in this regard and also by advising you of the number of graduates, alumni and 'friends' living in your catchment area. Email the Development & Alumni Relations Office - alumni@qub.ac.uk
Should you decide to proceed, the next step will be to find out if there are other people who might be interested in helping you to set up the branch. Thereafter, you or the Alumni Office can make arrangements for an informal event, meeting or get-together, for alumni in your area.
The structure of the branch - how often it shall meet and the number, frequency and nature of events - is up to its members. Whilst every support will be provided by Queen's, the success of the branch will depend on local interest and effort. The Alumni Office would appreciate a regular report on the activities of the branch, some of which might be of interest to other alumni and would therefore be suitable for inclusion in the alumni magazine.
The guidelines above refer specifically to regional or local branches. They can just as easily apply to branches based on academic areas of interest, e.g. faculty associations such as the Dental Alumni Group or along sporting lines, e.g. the Queen's Ladies Alumni Rowing Club, either in Northern Ireland or throughout the world.
The broad aims of alumni branches will inevitably include:
i. to bring together those who, by reason of distance from Queen's or through common academic or other interest, wish to maintain links with fellow alumni and their Alma Mater;
ii. to provide a forum for social, cultural and educational contact among members, through regular events;
iii. to provide an opportunity for members to support the activities of the University and to promote the good name of Queen's.
