Visits to China

Professor Basheer and Dr Bai in Beijing PhD WorkshopIn May 2009, the Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University, accompanied by a number of senior University representatives, visited China. Their visit brought Queen’s into contact with a number of prominent institutions and organisations and helped to raise the University’s profile. The visit demonstrated the University’s commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnerships with universities and higher education institutions in China.

The Queen’s delegation visited five of the 14 Science Bridge Project Partner institutions, Minzu University, Beijing Institute of Technology and the China Medical University, Shenyang, to explore extending existing collaborations between Queen’s and each institution.

Queen’s visited China again in December 2009, and attended a British Council PhD Recruitment event in Beijing. This was an opportunity for the University to promote its Queen’s Science Bridge Awards and other research opportunities available at Queen’s.

The Prime Minister’s Initiative (PMI2), encourages UK-China collaborative partnerships in employability and entrepreneurship, and student mobility. As a result, the Queen’s School of Management has recently developed a student exchange programme in entrepreneurship with Shenzen University. In addition, a mobility project has recently been approved with Tsinghua University in the area of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science; and a further entrepreneurship project with Ningbo Institute of Technology.
