Kamalesh Sharma
His Excellency Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General to the Commonwealth and former Indian High Commissioner to the UK is Queen's new Chancellor.
Kamalesh Sharma is a distinguished career diplomat who has served at ambassadorial level in five missions – including as Indian High Commissioner in London.
Now Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, he works with 54 sovereign states on a global agenda which includes the promotion of peace, democracy and human rights, tolerance, respect and understanding, the rule of law, global access to health and education and the elimination of poverty
He was installed as Chancellor of Queen’s in December 2009 and succeeds Senator George Mitchell.

Dr A P J Abdul Kalam
Queen's University honoured the former President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam at a special ceremony in the University.
The internationally-renowned space scientist was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws for distinction in public service. Dr Kalam then delivered a lecture to a packed Great Hall as part of the second Queen's-India Lecture Series. Other eminent speakers in the series have included historian Professor Romila Thapar and well-known economist Professor Deepak Nayyar.
Known as the "People's President", Dr Kalam was President of India from 2002 to 2007. During his term in office he led the country's continuing emgence as a developed nation and developed policies for sustained economic growth.
