What our students say

Sandhya Singh
Sandhya is in her second year of a PhD at Queen’s Immunology Department. She is originally from New Delhi.

“When I was at the National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi, I was working as a research fellow and I became aware of the close links between Queen’s and the NII. I was also impressed with Queen’s International outlook and forward-looking approach, and I applied for the PhD programme. The moment came when I was finally on my way to the inspiring city of Belfast, where I found people to be warm and friendly. I am involved in researching the “Role of SOCS2 in Dendritic Cells Cytokine Signalling”.

The facilities are more than satisfactory, and the level of teaching at Queen’s is excellent with plenty of opportunities for self-learning. The staff are very cooperative.

For me, the best thing about the institution is its work culture, which is important not only for the development of professional skills but for perfecting personality and confidence building as well.”

Sumi Shyam
Sumi has just finished her MSc in Process Engineering and is now a Queen’s graduate. She is originally from Trivandrum, Kerala.

“I chose to study at Queen’s because of its worldwide reputation for quality research, teaching and student facilities. The Chemical Engineering department is rated as one of the very best in the United Kingdom. Quality Queen’s education is available to everyone. There are many scholarships available for postgraduate students. The standard of teaching is excellent and is based on practical methods, so that students find it easier to face the industrial challenges of working life after graduation. Interactive classes also play a vital role in building up students’ confidence and communication skills.

“Queen’s has a vibrant cultural life and is investing heavily in maintaining and developing its academic quality. The University has a well-maintained South Asian Students’ Society, through which we can immerse ourselves in many of our own cultural and traditional activities and meet other students from our own country.

“Belfast is a very hospitable city. There are many opportunities for students to avail of, including clubs, societies and socialising.”
