What our students say

Brian Cox

Brian Cox

Brian is currently studying in his first year of a Medical degree in the School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is originally from San Diego, California.

"When I first arrived, I was struck by the history of the place. I marvelled at the architecture of Queen's and the eminent individuals who have studied here. I spent the first few weeks exploring the city, eager to find what else it had to offer. Intermingled between the University and the city centre were parks with the greenest of green fields; plenty of shops, and loads of entertainment – and all within walking distance!

I’ve been fortunate to expand my interests into student government and plenty of clubs. As a Californian surfer, I was most surprised  to find that Queen’s even offered a surf club! So far I’ve been challenged by coursework, inundated with opportunity, and have met some of the most generously kind people in the world.”

Jordan Junge

Jordan Junge

Jordan is in her second year of an undergraduate degree in International Studies from the School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy. She was also named the regional winner for Northern Ireland in the British Council’s SHINE! International Student Awards 2009. She is from Denver, Colorado.

“I decided to come to Queen’s University because of its outstanding international reputation and for the experience of studying outside America. I love my course- the staff are amazing and actually care about the students’ progression. Queen’s is a beautiful place to study and I would recommend it to anyone.”

Adam Harbison

Adam Harbison

Adam is a George Mitchell Scholar pursuing a one-year MSC in Sustainable Rural Development in the School of Biological Sciences. He is originally from Crane Hill, Alabama.

"As a George Mitchell Scholar, I came to Queen’s because of a personal interest in Northern Ireland and Rural Development. Queen’s had the perfect programme that combined classroom teaching with a work placement in the field. From the first time I talked with my faculty members and met my fellow classmates, I knew that I had made the right decision.

"My experience in the classroom has been phenomenal - lectures are presented by leading faculty experts and rural experts practicising in the field. I even feel challenged daily by the calibre of other students as we engage in rigorous debate and discussion. I feel further at home in Queen's as I've been able to join societies of interest and take an active role in student government."

Shawn Reming

Shawn M. Reming Jnr

Shawn is a first year PhD student in Irish Studies, researching how visitors to museums in Northern Ireland experience the Troubles through exhibits and displays. Shawn is originally from Mathews County, Virginia.

"I first came to Queen's for the Institute of Irish Studies, International Summer School in 2005, and returned in 2008.The Institute of Irish Studies is an excellent centre for research in a vastly interdisciplinary field, and it was clear that this place was the greatest fit for me. The dedication to interdisciplinary studies at Queen's makes it a unique research environment, creating opportunities for inquiry beyond traditional boundaries."
